We are seeking a passionate and reflective High School Mathematics Teacher to join our alternative learning community. The ideal candidate will bring mathematical rigor together with creativity, human connection, and developmental awareness, aligning with a Waldorf-inspired educational philosophy. This role emphasizes teaching mathematics as a living subject—one that supports critical thinking, imagination, and the holistic development of adolescents. Key Responsibilities Teaching & Learning Teach high school mathematics courses (e.g., Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Statistics, or Integrated Math) using developmentally appropriate, student-centered approaches Present mathematical concepts through storytelling, real-world applications, artistic processes, and experiential learning Design and deliver block-style lessons or thematic units where appropriate Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and learning styles Foster curiosity, confidence, and perseverance in students’ mathematical thinking Waldorf-Inspired Practice Integrate Waldorf principles such as rhythm, creativity, imagination, and whole-child development into mathematics instruction Emphasize process over rote memorization, and understanding over speed Use visual, kinesthetic, and artistic methods (drawing, movement, modeling) to support mathematical concepts Build strong, respectful relationships with students as a foundation for learning Assessment & Feedback Use qualitative, narrative, and formative assessment methods alongside required summative assessments Provide meaningful feedback that supports growth, self-reflection, and mastery Maintain clear documentation of student progress in line with school expectations Community & Collaboration Collaborate with colleagues in interdisciplinary planning and school initiatives Participate actively in faculty meetings, professional development, and community events Communicate regularly and thoughtfully with families about student progress and learning journeys Contribute positively to the school’s collaborative and reflective culture Qualifications & Experience Required Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field Experience teaching mathematics at the high school level Strong classroom management rooted in respect, warmth, and clarity Excellent communication and organizational skills Preferred Familiarity with or training in Waldorf education (or a strong willingness to learn) Experience in alternative, progressive, or holistic educational settings Teaching certification (as required by local regulations) Comfort with narrative assessments and non-traditional grading practices Personal Qualities Warm, grounded, and reflective presence Creative and flexible in teaching approach Commitment to adolescent development and holistic education Openness to growth, feedback, and ongoing learning
